AC/DC

AC/DC ([ˈeɪsiː ˈdiːsiː]; English abbreviation for "AC/DC") is an Australian hard rock band formed in 1973 by Scottish-born brothers Angus and Malcolm Young. They are among the pioneers of hard rock, but the band itself always refers to their music as rock 'n' roll.

The line-up of the band changed even before the release of the first album High Voltage in 1975, when vocalist Dave Evans was replaced by Bon Scott in the fall of 1974. In 1979 the band recorded their very successful album Highway to Hell. Shortly thereafter, lead singer and co-songwriter Bon Scott died on February 19, 1980. The group was thereafter close to disbanding until former Geordie singer Brian Johnson was hired as Scott's replacement. A little later the band released the album Back in Black. With over 50 million records sold, this album is now the second best-selling album in the world and the most successful hard rock album to date.

AC/DC is ranked #4 on VH1's list of the "100 Best Hard Rock Bands" and #7 on MTV's "Best Heavy Metal Bands of All Time" list. In 2004, the band was ranked number 72 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Greatest Artists. AC/DC has sold more than 200 million albums worldwide, including 69 million copies in the US.
