THE CHANGING TIDES EP marks a stylistic change for the 1981-born Aschaffenburg DJ, musician, producer and label maker Daniel Stenger. Five years after the album LIVINGROOM ADVENTURES, whose title track was catapulted onto several compilations around the globe right next to scene greats such as JAZZANOVA, TOSCA, MO' HORIZONS, HEXTATIC or T.RAUMSCHMIERE, FLASHBAXX releases its jazz & funk infected downbeats as a 7-track strong EP on his own label BaxxBeatMusic (Aschaffenburg, Germany). The motto is: Goodbye Soundscapes Hello Groove! Far from interchangeable chill-out productions without a soul, the workaholic on THE CHANGING TIDES EP impresses with organic lounge sound, smooth beats and an indomitable weakness for instruments that are sampled or played personally by the boss. While one track is celebrated with excessive use of a fatcap (IMU), the other shows the 0.3mm lead pencil and the attention to detail (VOODOO THERAPY). Cleverly programmed NuJazz breaks meet smooth Rhodes chords (CHANGING TIDES) and the simple lick of a Hohner semi-acoustic pierces its way into the listener's long-term memory as a catchy tune (STAINLESS). They switch from jazz and funk-laden downbeat to house and have the feeling of never having changed genres. The songs work just as well in the living room as on the dance floor. With THE CHANGING TIDES, FLASHBAXX has without a doubt delivered a top release that, with a playing time of almost 40 minutes plus two video clips (PC/MAC), really doesn't go through as an EP anymore. Who cares, as long as the music is good...!
